The 56th Annual Buccaneer Cup Sailfish Release Tournament, the oldest and most prestigious billfish tournament is only a few months away. There was no shortage of excitement with over 200 sailfish released by the fleet of both live and dead bait competitors last year. The Viking 68 released 25 sailfish over two days to take home the top honors. Mate Steve Ehrbar weighed in the Heaviest Meatfish with a 55-pound wahoo.
Based in the Palm Beaches of Florida, the Buc Cup kicks off on Wednesday, January 23, with a Captain’s Meeting Party, then the boats will battle it out on Friday and Saturday. When the spray settles, the teams will celebrate at the a week of camaraderie and competition at the awards banquet.
This non-profit event donates all its proceeds to the the Recreational Fishing Alliance and The Billfish Foundation. The RFA works for you to protect your right to fish, to make sure fisheries are managed in a sustainable manner, and to protect the jobs of people who make the boats, tackle and provide services to saltwater fishermen.
